NCRI – “I agree with the idea of returning these refugees to Ashraf, which is a more secure place for them because it’s their lives that is important and its safety must be provided by any means,” said the head of Iraq’s Human Rights Commission in the Iraqi Parliament
Dr. Salim Al-Jabouri expressed his abhorrence towards the February 9 rocket attack at Camp Liberty in Baghdad resulting in the death of 8 and the injury of more than 100.
The camp houses members of Iranian opposition, the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK),
Iraqi media quoted Al-Jabouri as saying: “We greatly condemn the attack to Camp Liberty and consider it as a crime and violation against their rights which has been disregarded for a long time
“A lot of pressures have been imposed on them, despite their full cooperation with the UN. Therefore a stronger stance is needed from the UN to provide safety for the lives of PMOI whom are refugees. So far this position has not been clear.”
Regarding collaborations by al-Maliki and some in the Iraqi government with the Iranian regime to attack Camp Liberty, that Dr. Al-Jabouri said, “We don’t deny that there are efforts to use arms and appliances for imposing pressure on the residents of Liberty by means of mistreating them. It is also very possible that there are some agents in the government engaged in this matter who want to destroy them.”:
“Therefore, I agree with the idea of returning these refugees to Ashraf, which is a more secure place for them because it’s their lives that is important and its safety must be provided by any means,” he added.
The president of Iraq’s Human Rights Commission emphasized, “We have to prevent the suppressive measures imposed on the residents in a humanitarian way and we must hope that they be in a safe place against any attack. It is Iraq’s responsibility to provide security for them.”
