NCRI – For more than a week, Iraqi forces in Camp Liberty have refused to allow fans purchased by residents to be allowed into the camp.
This measure comes in spite of rising temperatures in Iraq and increasingly unbearable environmental conditions in Camp Liberty.
This refusal by Iraqi forces also comes after Nouri al-Maliki’s political advisor Gorges Bakoos agreed on April 16 – in the presence of UN envoy Martin Kobler’s deputy – to allow 500 fans to be delivered to the camp.
Requests by residents to Iraqi and UN officials over the past week for the fans to be allowed into the camp have been refused after that Iraqi official Haidar Azab was ordered to obstruct their delivery by the prime ministerial committee.
Haidar Azab played a direct role in two massacres of Ashraf residents in 2009 and 2011 and has been summoned by the Court of Spain for crimes against humanity, war crimes, and crimes against the international community.
Due to the dilapidated nature of the AC units and their high power consumption, together with the Liberty’s ageing power generators and the extremely high cost of their fuel, residents had planned to combat the heat with these fans which would have also lowered their fuel consumption.
