In a criminal act, Iraqi government removes T-walls stored in proximity of Camp Liberty instead of returning them to the camp
In accordance with orders from the Iranian regime, the Iraqi government seeks higher number of casualties among residents in future attacks
NCRI – Starting on Saturday, June 22, 2013, just days after the third rocket attack against Camp Liberty, which left two dead and 70 residents injured while destroying many of the trailer units, in accordance with orders from the Prime Minister, Iraqi forces have begun transferring protective T-walls out of the broader region where Liberty is located. This criminal act takes place instead of returning the protective barriers to inside the camp in order to protect the trailer units.
During the time that American forces were stationed at Camp Liberty, 17,500 T-walls protected the trailers against missiles and mortar fire. However, since the residents of Ashraf were relocated to Liberty in February 2012, the T-walls were removed from Liberty despite protests by the residents. They have been stored and kept outside camp premises.
Following the February 9 missile attack, which resulted in 8 deaths and over 100 injuries, the residents and their representatives, through hundreds of letters, meetings and referrals to U.S., Iraqi, and United Nations officials, demanded the return of the T-walls. However, not a single one has been returned, and they officially informed the residents’ representatives that the Iraqi government opposes the return of the T-walls.
Such facts and evidence clearly demonstrate that the Iraqi government not only has no intentions to provide for the safety of the residents of Liberty but in fact seeks to leave the residents defenseless and unprotected against future attacks in a bid to claim a higher number of casualties.
The Iranian Resistance recalls the commitments of the U.S. government and the UN with respect to protecting Liberty residents and demands immediate measures to return the residents from Liberty to Camp Ashraf.
