(WASHINGTON) – U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, today wrote letters to President Obama, Secretary of State John Kerry, and to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Antonio Guterres, condemning the recent reported attack this morning against the residents of Camp Ashraf. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:
“I’m outraged by the atrocious massacre at Camp Ashraf, this morning, which reportedly left 52 dead, dozens wounded and at least 14 people captured. It’s unacceptable that these attacks against residents of Camp Ashraf continue, and that the Iraqi government has to date done nothing to stop protect these residents, and in fact, were reportedly behind this morning’s atrocities. Both the Iraqi government and the UN have done nothing to live up to their obligations to safeguard these residents. I once again call upon all parties to do what is necessary to ensure the safety of these residents until they can be safely relocated to another country.”
