Ashraf 3 has been the home to about 3,000 members of the MEK in Albania since 2016. Before Ashraf-3, MEK members resided in Ashraf 1 and 2, in Iraq.
After the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the Iranian regime tried in many ways to kill all MEK members in Iraq. Despite an all-out siege and several brutal massacres led by the Iranian regime’s proxies in Iraq, the members of MEK persisted and in 2016, after a long international campaign led by NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi, they were all relocated to Albania.
After 2016 relocation, the members of the MEK started to build Ashraf 3, the reincarnation of Iran’s beacon of hope and struggle for freedom, through enormous efforts and hard work.
The U.S. Government and the United Nations have repeatedly guaranteed the safety and well-being of the residents of Ashraf, and their rights according to international treaties, including the Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the European Convention on Human Rights.
